This note provides an introduction to the Social Categorization Form, a poverty assessment tool implemented by C.E.FOR. in Antananarivo from February 2005 onward with the support of Inter Aide. Structured around 8 socio-economic dimensions, it enables the standard of living of the micro-entrepreneur to be determined at different stages of his/her partnership with the micro-finance programme. Used successively, the tool can track the development of the micro-entrepreneurs’ standard of living and identify those dimensions which have developed the most, as well as those for which complementary initiatives might be envisaged.
