Historical of the creation :
In 1998 a socio economic program was set up for the very deprived area of St Martin, suburb of Port-au-Prince. Micro credit was one out of three actions, the others were in the social and professional training fields. In 2003 we decided to develop the micro finance approach, while the other two activities did not develop too much, especially with the political turmoil in St Martin itself. Lately we opened our fifth branch.
Objective/mission :
Our mission is to help people improve by themselves their living conditions thanks to micro finance. Our program aims to work with the very poor.
Action’s principles :
Our values are the following : Professionalism, because we aim at providing the best service with the highest efficiency achievable, Respect, because in all cases we must interact with the equivalent respect for one another, and Fraternity, which we define as an ideal to develop in the course of life, at work and everywhere else. Fraternity is not to be confused with making friends at work, or with our partner clients.
Programs :
We serve people in very deprived areas by providing them with loans for their activities. We train, counsel and support them all along their loan. Our savings scheme is not yet fully developed.
We measure our activity in terms of on going loans and partners, and the quality of our work with portfolio at risk, retention rate and financial sustainability.
Target groups and beneficiaries :
We aim at reaching very poor people in urban and near urban deprived areas. We target those who have managed to start an activity, even if it is very small. We have developped a solidarity group methodology to attain very poor people, with very small loans by Haitian standard (50 to 100 USD).
We have 3300 people with an on going loan by 30 of october 2006.
Operational Partners :
We have financial and technical partners, some doing both.
Financially, we are supported by the French foreign affairs (MAE), Concern Worldwide, Intermon and EdM.
Technically, Concern Worldwide and EdM provide us with the necessary support.
We have close relations with ACME, the most efficient MFI in Haiti.
We are an active member of ANIMH, the national association for microfinance.
