In 1995, the French NGO INITIATIVE DEVELOPPEMENT (ID) launched an integrated development program in 2 areas of Cotonou. This program comprised of a microfinance activity which in 1998 went on to become a full fledged microfinance program. On March 20th 2003, ID signed an agreement with the Ministry of Finance which gave the program the authorization to pursue microfinance activities. Since 2005, the Program has embarked on the way to institutionalization, and a local legal entity named Alidé was created, with the aim to continue and to secure ID BENIN’s achievements starting in January 2007.

Objective/mission :
Our objective is to give lasting access to income generating loans, to savings and to training to the poorer families in the suburban and rural areas, as they do not have access to the formal loans and savings system. For this, we wish to mix efficient methodologies and quality services to our clients in order to become a financially sustainable institution.
Action’s principles :
Our organization is based on the values and principles which lay the foundations for the pursuit of our mission: rigor, perseverance, compliance to procedures, honesty, transparency, good morals, fairness, team spirit, respect of hierarchy, collaboration. These principles are referred to as the 10 commandments of ID BENIN.
The specifics of our approach is that it places the individual in the very heart of the microfinance activity.

Programs
Alidé is a program that works on 3 themes: microcredit ; training and family support.
Microcrédit includes namely one loan product which is called « prêt coup de pouce » (« helping hand loan ») which is an individual loan that is has a strictly social and educational objective. The loan amount is 10 000 FCFA maximum, and the interest rate is 0%. This loan is meant for our poorer clients which are targeted by no other MFI in Cotonou. Subsequent loans cannot exceed 20 000 FCFA and the clients that repay their loan correctly can graduate to our ‘classic’ loan products.
Training : Each beneficiary take part in at least 3 training sessions before they can avail their first loan. These sessions are on managing a loan, marketing, computing margins, husband-wife relations.
Family support: This service is implemented in all 4 branches via a social worker that deals with our clients that are undergoing sever social problems. The social worker refers the clients to our local partner RACINES.
