Historical of the creation :
|

Socio Economic programs in Kanbauk region were launched in 1995 with an objective to:
- set the ground for an efficient two ways communication link between the villagers and Total
- improve the living conditions of the population in the area, by improving their health as well as education, economic and infrastructure conditions of the area.
Starting end of 1994 and throughout 1995, in-depth studies on the demographics and socio-economic profile of the 13 villages along the pipeline was undertaken. The program was extended to another 10 villages in 2001 and 2 villages in 2005. Currently 25 villages are part of the socio economic program.

· To keep monitoring the economic development of the area and encourage local initiatives

Programs :
|
|
1). Communication
- “Village communication committees” (VCC) composed of 7 to 10 volunteer villagers in each village set up a permanent dialogue between the population and the socio economic team
- 3 Communication Officers visit individual families, and meet with villagers regularly in various types of activities and meetings.
In 2005, 2 new villages became part of this project and VCC elections were held in 10 villages. Also, a total of 97 focal group discussions were held in villages with 3227 villagers attended.
2). Health Care program
- Public health care activities (medical personnel & equipment, free consultations & treatment, and reinforcement of local facilities and capacities).
- Health program activities include primary health care, childhood immunization, sanitation, tuberculosis, family planning, care of elderly and cardiovascular cases, malaria program…
Main achievements in 2005 include 85.750 free consultations, 13,670 vaccinations, health education sessions for 11.668 villagers, 4372 fly proof latrines were built and 62 water wells were renovated.
3). Education program
- Construction & renovation of schools, Annual bonuses for teachers & staff, Provision of stationery, teaching aids, equipments, books for school libraries, computer training program.
In 2005, the Teacher / students ratio was 1:27; 4 new school buildings were constructed and 5 schools renovated. Water supply for school in 9 villages. Supported 16 school libraries. Solar panels, electrical units and computers equipped at 3 libraries.
4). Infrastructure program
- Construction & renovation of bridges, access roads, water supply systems, religious building, sporting grounds, market, repainting of public buildings, donation of public utilities.
In 2005, the program constructed 4 new bridges, water supply for 2 villages, and carried out major improvement of access roads / inner roads.
5). Economic Development program – this programme comprises of :
The Loan system:
a) Yadana capital loan for short term business - loan duration 6 months, average loan approx 50 USD
b) Agricultural loan for agricultural business - loan duration 1 year, average loan approx 200 USD
c) Home base income generation loan for small scale home base income generation business - loan duration 1 year, average loan approx 500 USD
Agriculture / Livestock Breeding : set up integrated farms, introduce new techniques and varieties to improve productivity, support local farmers with technical advise, provide regular trainings.
Achievements in 2005:
Loan sector
- Yadana Capital loan: Fund available 47,000 USD, with 1248 loaners (677ongoing).
- Agricultural (Individual) loan: Fund available 12,000 USD, with 111 loaners (50 ongoing). Agricultural (Fertilizer) loan: Fund available 11,500 USD with 402 loaners.
- Home base income generation loan. Fund available 12,000 USD with 30 loaners (23 ongoing).
Agricultural sector
- Trained 34 farmers coordinators
- Supported in plantation of various crops; supported with technical advice / pest control.
- Established water supply systems
Veterinary sector
- Training of 33 veterinary auxiliary
- Pig farming program: Realized 237 pig farms, involving 237 families.
- Poultry farming program: Realized 72 farms.
- Free provision of vaccinations & treatment for breeding farms.

The population of the 25 villages, which are officially part of socio eco program, is around 31 000 inhabitants (estimated 5166 families). But overall population benefiting from the socio-eco programs, is around 43 800 inhabitants(estimated 7300 families), taking into account of people from surrounding area
