Success of the Month - November 2009
Leda Jedeus [Haïti - Croix des Bouquets]
Mr and Mrs JEDEUS have 8 children from 7 to 24 years. They live in a shack made of sheet metal, in
Belanton, a district of “ La Croix des Bouquets ” situated North East of the capital, Port au Prince. Leda JEDEUS sells books, stationery, odds and ends.
At the beginning, she only had a table to show her goods. Now she also has shelves and iron trunks to display and keep safe her products. The sales are very irregular but Lena is hard-working and full of tenacity.

The income from her stall enables her 6 school-aged children to go to school now
A support as complete as possible
Since August 2006, IDM our partner in Haiti, has granted Lena 8 loans, from 5 000 to 25 0000 gourdes ( from 77 to 385 €) to help her
to strengthen and develop her small shop. On the occasion of each new granting of a loan, Mrs JEDEUS benefited from an economic training
course ( account keeping, precautions to take in case of a sale on credit, calculation of cost prices….) and lately she attended a course
on social themes ( prevention measures against malaria and filariasis
An everyday life which is getting better
The monthly net income generated by Leda’s activity passed in three years from 2 100 to 17 800 (from 32 to 276 €).The six children
of school age go to school and everybody has enough to eat. Besides, Mrs JEDEUS managed to put 3 572 gourdes aside (58 €) on a savings
account which she opened at IDM. She wants to carry on developing her sales and her savings to be able to get to a new step, very important
for her family: the building of a proper house.
