Support for economic integration and housing in France

Finding work when you are homeless is generally a pipe dream. How can you devote yourself fully to it when you don’t have enough to wash, eat, feel safe… and your self-esteem is often at its lowest at times like these? Even if opportunities do arise, they need to be close to where people live, as they often have virtually no means of transportation: no driver’s license, no vehicle, no way to rent accommodation…

In 2019, Entrepreneurs du Monde launched the Un toit vers l’emploi (UTVE) program based in Rouen to offer a path to social and economic reintegration for homeless people, focusing on two areas:

  • Providing small wooden mobile homes through its social enterprise, La Fabrik à Yoops
  • Support for socio-economic integration through the association La Case Départ

La Fabrik à Yoops

La Fabrik à Yoops is a simplified joint stock company (SAS) created in December 2020. ESUS accreditation was obtained in January 2021.
€650,000 fundraising campaign in December 2021 enabled production of the tiny houses to begin in March 2022: the first Yoops will be delivered in June 2022.

The goal is to have 55 houses available for rent by 2025, primarily in the Rouen metropolitan area, and 85 houses for sale throughout the country.

La Case Départ

Opening in January 2021, a day center offering unconditional support, including:

  • Social counseling;
  • Referrals to partners in the metropolitan area;
  • Job search assistance;
  • Help finding stable housing in tiny houses or in the housing stock;
  • Themed workshops.
