Financial and social inclusion

The social microfinance institutions supported by Entrepreneurs du Monde advocate a unique approach combining tailored financial products and complementary support services.

Sustainably improving living conditions for families

In the countries where Entrepreneurs du Monde operates, millions of women and men working in the informal sector struggle to develop their small businesses due to a lack of access to capital, training, and decent living conditions for themselves and their families.

  • 1,4 billion people live on less than $2.15 a day

  • 60 % of adults in developing countries do not have access to a bank account.

In developing countries, the poorest households, lacking access to education, find it very difficult to find paid employment, particularly women, who are traditionally responsible for domestic tasks.

To provide for their families, they start small incomegenerating activities (street vending, small grocery stores, fast food outlets, etc.), but often find themselves blocked by a lack of access to capital, limited technical and management skills, and poor living conditions affecting themselves and their families.

For Entrepreneurs du Monde, financial and social inclusion depends on developing a holistic approach that addresses the multiple needs of vulnerable populations in order to build greater resilience.

Social microfinance accessible to all

We advocate a unique approach to social microfinance that combines tailored financial products (unsecured loans, voluntary savings, microhealth insurance) with complementary support services (training, individual advice, referrals).

With this approach, we help the most vulnerable people develop sustainable incomegenerating activities and improve their families living conditions in the long term.

Tailored support for success

Beyond financing, we help each person strengthen their skills and independence:

  • Interactive group training (management, organization, leadership, etc.)
  • Personalized advice (agriculture, trade, etc.)
  • Awareness of social issues (health, gender equality, rights, climate, etc.)

By supporting marginalized people who start businesses, we significantly increase their chances of success in their trade, workshop, or agricultural production, and thus of becoming self-sufficient and lifting their entire families out of extreme poverty.

Where are we working to promote financial and social inclusion?

Socio-economic inclusion is at the heart of our mission and constitutes our main area of expertise. For more than 25 years, we have developed a methodology that places the economic autonomy of the most vulnerable at the center of our actions.

This approach is the basis for all our programs: it adapts to each local context while remaining faithful to our principles of action. Thanks to this approach, we help thousands of women and men develop a business, secure their income, and improve their living conditions in a sustainable way.

Today, economic and social inclusion is integrated into almost all of our programs in 12 countries around the world.
