Adaptation to climate change

Entrepreneurs du Monde supports vulnerable populations to strengthen their resilience to the impacts of climate change and preserve their natural resources.

A vital challenge for the most vulnerable

Droughts, erratic rainfall, typhoons, and floods are already weakening the families we support. Entrepreneurs du Monde helps them adapt and preserve biodiversity in the face of climate change.

  • 2.3 billion people affected by drought

  • 21 million new climate refugees per year

Raise awareness at all levels

  • With beneficiaries: systematic dissemination of training modules on deforestation and forest preservation.
  • With headquarters teams and incubated organizations: integration of climate issues into the mission and daily practices, with a joint charter for climate and biodiversity.
  • With agricultural technical advisors: quarterly webinars led by our agricultural advisor, sharing of agroecological best practices and dissemination of adaptation solutions.
  • With social microfinance institutions: participation in the CERISE+SPTF analysis, which reveals an average climate commitment of 37%, well above the sector average (10%).

Agir concrètement sur le terrain

Preserving water resources

Our teams encourage and provide training in agroecological practices, such as:

  • installing stone barriers to limit erosion and promote infiltration,
  • using compost to improve soil structure and water retention,
  • planting shrubs to protect crops and improve deep infiltration.
  • Protecting forest cover
  • Replacing rudimentary cooking stoves with wood-efficient stoves (Haiti, Burkina Faso, Togo, Senegal).

Priority development of programs in ecologically sensitive areas:

  • Guinea: WAKILI has opened an office in Moussaya, the country’s future first national park.
  • Liberia: launch of a program in an area of ecological interest to preserve the forest that covers 40% of the national territory and represents a unique heritage in West Africa.
