Clean and affordable energy

The majority of the women entrepreneurs we support suffer from severe energy poverty. We facilitate their access to robust and affordable equipment for lighting, cooking, and developing economic activity.

A dramatic impact on living and working conditions, health, finances, and the environment

Without access to the electricity grid, many families use kerosene lamps, torches, or light bulbs powered by old car batteries for lighting. Without access to a gas network, they cook with charcoal.

  • 567 million of people in Sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to electricity

  • 90 % of the population in Africa depends on a rudimentary cooking method

Access to energy: a key lever for empowerment

Entrepreneurs du Monde develops sustainable energy solutions to improve the lives of vulnerable families, combining several levers:

  • Adapted, high-quality equipment: solar lamps and kits, improved stoves, solar pumps and refrigerators, microgrids for income-generating activities.
  • Local distribution: networks of local micro-entrepreneurs, field support, after-sales services.
  • Inclusive financial solutions: payment facilities, tailored microcredit to make equipment accessible to all.
  • Awareness-raising and follow-up: practical advice on use, maintenance, and health, economic, and environmental benefits.

We facilitate access to energy-efficient and safe lighting and cooking equipment for families experiencing energy poverty. This improves their living and working conditions, their health, and their impact on the environment.

Where are we working to promote access to energy?

Entrepreneurs du Monde works in Africa, Haiti, and Southeast Asia to combat energy poverty. Our teams develop access to solar equipment and clean stoves, while supporting the growth of local micro-entrepreneurs who distribute them in a sustainable and accessible manner.

Our work is based on a twofold objective: meeting the essential needs of households (lighting, cooking, economic productivity) and reducing the environmental impact of using wood and fossil fuels.

  • Deployment of local distribution networks
  • Provision of high-quality, sustainable equipment
  • Financing options tailored to low-income households
