Modern equipment to overcome energy poverty

Since 2013, Mivo Energie has been facilitating access to clean and efficient solutions: solar lamps and improved wood or coal stoves. These devices have an immediate impact: they reduce toxic fumes and fine particles that are harmful to health, significantly lower household expenses by reducing wood or coal consumption, and help slow deforestation while reducing CO₂ emissions.

To amplify these effects, Mivo Energie is also building a solid production and distribution network. The organization supports local artisans in the manufacture of improved stoves, trains and supports retailers throughout the country, conducts awareness campaigns with appropriate social marketing tools, and handles logistics and after-sales service. Finally, it facilitates access to equipment through financing solutions available from 17 partner microfinance institutions.

In 2024, Mivo Energie received the international award for the most innovative company in the renewable energy sector in Togo at the 20th edition of the Gala des 100 entreprises les plus dynamiques du Togo (Gala of the 100 Most Dynamic Companies in Togo), under the high patronage of the Togolese government.

In Togo, lighting and cooking remain a challenge

Without access to electricity or gas, most Togolese people use alternatives for lighting and cooking that are harmful to their health, their budget, and the environment: kerosene or battery-powered lamps, and rudimentary stoves that consume large amounts of coal or wood and emit fine particles.

Energy poverty particularly affects women, who are responsible for supplying wood and cooking.

Key figures and impact

By 2024, Mivo Energie had equipped more than 13,000 families, changing the lives of 55,000 people.

  • 13 908 equipped families

  • 17 385 equipment sold

  • 538 resellers

For a long time, preparing Khom on my old stove was a logistical challenge: I had to cook the dough at home at dawn, then transport it to my restaurant before the first customers arrived. Everything changed the day I discovered the gas stove designed especially for restaurateurs like me. Before, it was unthinkable to cook while serving at the same time. Charcoal took too long, and the smoke bothered customers. With my gas stove, I can prepare Khom as I go, adjusting the quantities according to how busy it is. The result: fresher food, less waste, and satisfied customers!
