Catherine – Restorer in Burkina Faso
My business has grown, and I have even been able to hire four women to help me. My family and friends are also delighted: there is no more smoke or nuisance. Thanks to my business, I support my husband, I am able to save money, and I provide stability for my children. I am very happy: today, I cook better, I earn more, and I am no longer alone.
My name is Catherine, I am married and have four children. For a long time, I tried my hand at various odd jobs such as hairdressing and millet processing, but none of them really provided enough to support my family. I wanted a more stable job that would lift us out of poverty. That’s how I decided to go into catering, with determination.
Cooking better to earn more
At first, I cooked with wood, which was slow, tiring, and restrictive. Thanks to the help of Nafa Naana and the president of my women’s association, I was able to buy a gas stove and a gas cylinder, paying in installments. Gas transformed my daily life: faster, cleaner, and more convenient, it allowed me to work better and save time.
An activity that creates jobs
I start my days at 6 a.m. baking cakes, then I move on to preparing meals: early, rice, benga, babenda.
