Nhornh Sao, a Pteah Baitong beneficiary in Cambodia

Thanks to Pteah Baitong, Entrepreneurs du Monde’s energy access program in Cambodia, Nhornh Sao can access energy. She testifies!

“I started working when I was 12 years old. I planted rice and made $1.25 a day. So, as soon as I could, I went to Malaysia to work as a domestic helper. I was 19 years old. After 5 years, I returned to Cambodia. I’m now married to a nice man and we have two daughters. We’re a happy, united family.

I have my own business: I sell groceries and cooked meals. It’s going well because I’m a hard worker and a good cook. The food I make has a good reputation and my customers are loyal.

Electricity for comfort and profit

Thanks to the Pteah Baitong team, my house is connected to the Okra mini grid. It’s so much better than what we cobbled together before! I’m saving 40% on energy bills and my business has been given a boost because I’ve installed a TV. This attracts customers and I’m making a profit of $300 a month now!

I’m going to purchase an egg incubator powered by this grid to develop a breeding activity, in addition to my grocery store. We already have a much better standard of living, in a bigger, brighter house, and I will be able to send my daughters to a good school!”
